Dr. Mehmet Oz proved that he doesn’t just play a physician on TV when he rushed to help an accident victim hurt outside his offices near Rockefeller Center in New York City on Tuesday.
The cardiothoracic surgeon and host of The Dr. Oz Show hurried to the scene when a taxi driver lost control of his cab, driving onto the sidewalk and into a group of unsuspecting pedestrians. A woman, reported by the Daily News to be a British tourist, lost her left foot.
Dr. Oz said on his Facebook page that a plumber from New York, David Justino, acted quickly by removing his belt and using it as a tourniquet to staunch the bleeding from the woman’s leg.
Oz and Justino stayed with the victim until emergency teams, who were already on the scene, rushed her to the hospital.
“I applaud the quick thinking and heroic actions of David and the first responders. My prayers are with the victim for a speedy recovery, he wrote.
