What if the characters of Downton Abbey were played by dogs? The fur is always flying on the British period drama, which has crossed the Atlantic to become an American favorite, so it was only a matter of time before that fur took a literal turn. Besides, hasn't Mr. Bates always looked like a basset hound to you?
Thanks to the folks at Dogster, Downton fans have a treat to tide them over until the series returns for a third season.
The Earl of Grantham would be played by an English bulldog, naturally. "Generally docile but sometimes willful, bulldogs' aggression has been bred out," Dogster explains. "Although they once had higher aspirations, they're now content to snooze on the couch all day."
His American wife, Lady Grantham, would be played by a quintessentially American dog: the collie. "This breed excels most when it has a job," Dogster writes, and collies tend to get "very bored and prone to depression."
