El aspirante a la candidatura presidencial de EE.UU. por el Partido Republicano Mitt Romney se impuso hoy en las primarias de su partido en Maryland y el Distrito de Columbia, informaron las cadenas CNN y NBC.Recién cerrados los colegios electorales en el estado de Maryland y el Distrito de Columbia, donde se encuentra la capital, Washington, las proyecciones de voto señalan que Romney obtuvo una holgada ventaja.
Ambos resultados, basados en proyecciones sobre sondeos a salida de las urnas, eran esperados por ambos candidatos, que habían concentrado sus esfuerzos en las terceras primarias que se celebraban hoy en Wisconsin.
En Wisconsin, los sondeos también prevén una victoria de Romney, ex gobernador de Massachusetts, pero indicaban a media jornada que la diferencia sería más estrecha.
Las urnas se clausurarán en Wisconsin en un momento, por lo que los votantes aún disponen de tiempo para acudir a depositar su voto.
Romney, que cuenta con más del doble de los delegados que Santorum hasta el momento, esperaba ratificar en las tres primarias de hoy su condición de candidato principal.
Santorum, de perfil más conservador y exsenador por Pensilvania, confía en mantener el respaldo de las bases ultraconservadoras del partido republicano y continuar con el pulso con Romney.
Hay un total de 92 delegados en liza esta noche: 16 del Distrito de Columbia, 37 de Maryland y 39 de Wisconsin.
Las primarias del Distrito de Columbia y las Maryland eran cerradas, es decir, solo podían participar votantes registrados en el partido republicano.
Mientras que en las de Wisconsin, aún abiertas, pueden votar miembros no registrados.
