Charlie Sheen is entering rehab, his publicist announced Tuesday, and production on his series, Two and a Half Men, will be suspended temporarily.
“As a preventative measure, Charlie Sheen has entered a rehabilitation facility. He will take some time off his series, Two and a Half Men,” Stan Rosenfield said in a statement. “He has asked that his privacy be honored.”
Rosenfield did not say what Sheen will be treated for or how long he will take a break from the show. CBS, Warner Bros. (the studio that produces the show), and series creator/executive producer Chuck Lorre announced late Tuesday that production on the sitcom would be temporarily suspended, and expressed support for Sheen’s “decision today to begin voluntary in-patient care at a treatment center. We wish him nothing but the best as he deals with this personal matter.”
Judge: Charlie Sheen allowed to see wife
The Emmy-nominated actor, 44, was arrested on Christmas Day and charged with second degree assault, menacing and criminal mischief after a dispute with his wife. Sheen and his wife, Brooke Mueller, 32, have been married since May of 2008 and have 11-month-old twin sons.
Co-star Jon Cryer said last month the actor’s personal problems have not affected his work.
“He’s been incredibly professional, always, but especially in times of personal crisis,” Sheen’s Men co-star Jon Cryer told People last month. “He is solid as a rock.”
