Los Angeles Angels prospect Mike Trout(notes) is on his way back to Double-A Arkansas.
Trout, who was called up on July 8 to fill in for the injured Peter Bourjos(notes) in center field, wrote on his Twitter account Monday morning, “Back to Little Rock! Had awesome experience up here in Anaheim. Thanks for everything!”
Trout made 12 starts for the Angels and hit .163 with one home run and six RBI. With Bourjos returning to the lineup last week, the Angels felt the 19-year-old Trout would be better off sharpening his skills in the minors.
The Angels haven’t yet announced a roster move to replace Trout, but the L.A. Times reports that the team is expected to recall utility player Alexi Amarist.
Trout will likely return to the majors in September.
