Three’s a crowd for American sprinters running in Sunday’s final 100M race in the 2012 Games.
Justin Gatlin of Pensacola, Fla., Ryan Bailey of Long Beach, Calif., and Tyson Gay of Lexington, Ky., were three of eight competitors running inside London’s Olympic Stadium.
The only problem was that three Jamaicans also stepped into the starting blocks, including defending Olympic champion Usain Bolt.
Bolt proved to be lightning fast one again, taking the gold medal with a time of 9.63 seconds. His teammate Yohan Blake won silver with a time of 9.75 seconds. But American Justin Gatlin edged out his countrymen, earning bronze with a time of 9.79 seconds.
Gay and Bailey were fourth and fifth place finishers, respectively, with Gay finishing .01 seconds after Gatlin.
