“Love is the strongest and most fragile thing we have in life,” the singer-actress, 39, tells Harper’s Bazaar in its September issue. “Nothing is ever for sure, but when something in love doesn’t work from the beginning, it’s never going to work. Don’t push it.”
Paradis, who has two children with Depp – Lily-Rose, 13, and John, known as Jack, 10 – adds that relationships are always evolving, even those that begin with love at first sight.
“When you meet the love of your life, it’s just obvious and natural and easier,” she says. But “you keep learning all the time. Sometimes you could be in an unhappy relationship; you are very much in love with someone, but it’s making you unhappy and you think things can change and you can work it out.”
Paradis and Depp, in the end, could not work it out – and the actor, 49, has been living a bachelor’s life for some time.
As for her own future, Paradis does not directly address the issue of dating in the Bazaar interview. But she does offer some clues about what she looks for in a man.
“Well, my type is obviously creative,” she says. “Creative, with burning eyes and a pretty mouth.”
