During a family trip down Venice’s Grand Canal in Italy Sunday, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and their six children brought along a surprising guest: Jolie’s father, Jon Voight.
After a seven-year rift, Voight, 71, told UsMagazine.com last fall that he and his daughter, 34, had recently reconciled. (Jolie stopped speaking to Voight in 2001 after a teary Voight appeared on Access Hollywood and pleaded for her to seek help for her “serious mental problems.”)

“We’re in touch, but not regularly,” Voight told Us. “We love each other and that’s the most important thing.”

Voight recently came to his daughter’s defense, telling Us that split rumors involving Jolie and Pitt, 46, were “nonsense.”
