Charlie Sheen wasn’t the only thing cut from the Two and a Half Men set this season: Ashton Kutcher‘s scruff recently got the ax as well.
“Jesus wanted [his look] back so I gave it to him,” Kutcher joked of his clean-shaven face and short hair at a PaleyFest panel in Los Angeles Monday.
In reality, it was the show’s writers — not divine intervention — that were responsible for Kutcher’s new look: his character, Walden Schmidt, was introduced in the CBS series’ ninth season premiere with long locks and a shaggy beard that have since disappeared.
“We wanted to tell a story about being in a relationship and being pressured to change,” show creator Chuck Lorre said of Walden’s budding relationship with Zoey (Sophie Winkleman). “Walden pushed back and said, ‘You can’t change me. This is who I am.’ But once she stopped trying he got a haircut and changed.”
So what does Kutcher think of his new look?
“I actually was enjoying looking homeless,” he joked.
“People just gave him quarters,” added costar Jon Cryer. Tell us: What do you think of Kutcher’s clean-cut look?
