In an interview with Omg! Insider, the actress, now 37, speaks out about her struggle with bulimia, and how she felt food brought comfort to a life that was otherwise in transition.
The actress, who has just written a new memoir titled Balancing It All, had previously spoken publicly about her eating disorder, most notably in her first book, Reshaping It All.
During the interview, she says that that her eating disorder stemmed from “the emotional struggle that I had in dealing with just a totally new life” after she married hockey pro Valeri Bure and moved to Montreal to support him and his career.
That transition, from actress to wife to Montreal transplant, took an emotional toll on Cameron Bure.
“I turned to food for comfort and had to find a different source, because clearly it wasn’t a healthy way to deal with things,” the actress explains.
“So that’s really when my faith was kicked up a notch and sought comfort in my relationship with God, and not with food.”
She also looked back on her run on Full House, where she said that showrunners were always mindful of the young actress, and her sense of body image.
“I think I was very protected by my parents and even the producers,” Cameron Bure says, reflecting on how she avoided developing an eating disorder while on the show. “They all had a sensitivity about it. The producers were parents themselves. I don’t think any of them wanted to see that happen to their child, so I was protected.”
