The stars headed up to the Top of the Standard to celebrate the upcoming premiere of Girls, HBO's racy new comedy about four twentysomething women finding their way in New York City. And it was a glamorous cocktail party that was a far cry from the sometimes challenging Brooklyn living depicted on the witty new show. With plates of charcuterie and cheese on reserved tables, guests such as Claire Danes, Chloe Sevigny, Gabourey Sidibe, former Real Housewives of N.Y.C. star Kelly Bensimon and the show's producer Judd Apatow fanned out around the circular room, mingling in the intimate space and taking in the panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline.
Danes shared a moment with the show's stars Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet while Lena Dunham, the new show's writer, director and lead actress, hung out at her private table, chatting with Apatow and greeting well-wishers such as John Cameron Mitchell with a friendly handshake. At one point, Dunham headed to Le Bain, just across the hall from the main party space, where she chatted with Boardwalk Empire's Steve Buscemi, who was enjoying a plate of food from the nearby buffet.

Guests, who moved freely through the rooms and two rooftop decks, were treated to a full spread of steak and pasta with tomato sauce, as well as an open bar, and waiters carried trays of martinis and wine as people entered.Sidibe, in a spangly gold top, chatted with a female friend (her guest) and also mingled with Allison Williams, daughter of NBC news anchor Brian Williams, and also a star of the show. (Williams, in a suit and blue striped tie, was there to support his daughter – as was Katie Couric.) And Kevin Bacon stuck near his wife (and distant cousin) Kyra Sedgwick at the bash – which lasted well past midnight.
