Los 12 policías venezolanos vinculados a la muerte de Karen Berendique, hija de un cónsul honorario chileno en este país, fueron imputados como coautores de homicidio calificado con alevosía, informó hoy la Fiscalía local.Además fueron imputados como coautores de homicidio calificado con alevosía en grado de frustración sobre Fernando Berendique, hermano de la víctima; por uso indebido de arma de reglamento, y quebranto de pactos y convenios internacionales firmados por Venezuela.
El Cuarto Tribunal de Control del noroccidental estado Zulia decretó la privativa de libertad de todos los implicados y fijó como sitio de reclusión la sede de la Policía Municipal del Sur, en el municipio San Francisco, señaló el Ministerio Público.
El presidente venezolano Hugo Chávez calificó de bárbaro y brutal el asesinato y exigió todo el peso de la ley a los responsables, luego que el gobierno chileno expresó su enérgica condena y exigió el esclarecimiento de los hechos a la brevedad.
Karen, hija del cónsul honorario de Chile en Maracaibo, Fernando Berendique, murió el pasado viernes en esa ciudad producto de los disparos hechos por la policía luego que el automóvil en el cual viajaba junto a su hermano no se detuvo para un control.
De acuerdo a las indagaciones, el vehículo recibió la orden de detenerse por parte de los policías del Cuerpo de Investigaciones Científicas, Penales y Criminalísticas (CICPC), que esa noche realizaban un operativo de automóviles robados.
Debido a que el vehículo no se detuvo, la policía abrió fuego e impactó en tres ocasiones a Karen, quien murió en un centro asistencial.
Su hermano y conductor dijo que llevaba a Karen a un encuentro estudiantil y que no se detuvo por temor a ser asaltado, según fuentes cercanas a la familia.
