Jennifer Westfeldt may be dating one of Hollywood's hunkiest guys– Jon Hamm – but she admits to feeling butterflies over some other big talents: Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph.Westfeldt, who wrote, directed, produced and stars in the new romantic drama Friends with Kids out on Friday, got close to the Bridesmaids stars while working on the new film.
"I have the biggest crush on both of them," Westfeldt, 42, tells PEOPLE.
"They are the kindest, most loving and supremely talented women. I respect these women so much."
Shooting the movie about a woman who chooses to have a baby with her best friend without the romance was like an ongoing party for Westfeldt and the cast.
"They are the most spectacular people!" Westfeldt says about directing Wiig, Rudolph, Bridesmaids actor Chris O'Dowd and Hamm. "It was like college, putting on a play in a dining hall with all your best friends and everyone just there rolling up their sleeves and goofing off."
As a big fan of Wiig's work on Bridesmaids, Westfeldt wanted to have Wiig and Hamm play one of the movie's married couples – and she had no problem with their onscreen implied quickie.
"Kristen and Jon have natural chemistry that is so honest and real, which is why we wanted to pair them," says Westfeldt. "I feel like they are so convincing together. I felt that every time they've worked together. I had no problem with them being together."
