The Lakers signed undrafted forward Jonathan Holmes on Thursday to a two-year contract.
According to his agent Zach Kurtin of Priority Sports, Holmes’ contract is worth $1.4 million, with $100,000 guaranteed his first season.
The addition of Holmes increases the Lakers’ roster to the regular-season maximum of 15 players. Teams can bring up to 20 players to training camp near the end of September.
The 6-foot-9 Texas senior can play either forward position, though the Lakers are certainly well-stocked at power forward with Julius Randle, Brandon Bass, Larry Nance Jr., Ryan Kelly and Tarik Black.
Only 12 of the players on the roster have fully guaranteed salaries. Jabari Brown, Black and Holmes are the exceptions.
Brown and Black are both signed for $845,059, with no guaranteed money. Holmes will earn $525,093, provided he gets past the Jan. 10 cut-down date.
If not, Holmes could join the D-Fenders, the Lakers’ NBA Development League affiliate.
Holmes’ second season is for a non-guaranteed $874,636, locking in four days upon the completion of the Lakers’ summer league, provided he participates — moot if he’s cut before the 2015-16 season.
The Lakers have a team salary of $71.7 million, including Holmes, Brown and Black.
Recently, General Manager Mitch Kupchak noted the Lakers could use another point guard and center, although available roster space is a concern.
