Cyrus’s cover du jour, though, is a bit more of a left turn. She’s released a cover of “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You,” a folk song by Anne Bredon (also performed by Joan Baez) that Led Zeppelin turned into a thundering rock anthem.
Cyrus released the track directly to her SoundCloud account with little fanfare: She simply Tweeted a link out to it.
Cyrus’s flirtation with music from the 1960s (she’s also covered “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”) seems set to continue on her next record. At the VMAs in August, she mentioned that the new record will be “a little psychedelic, but still in that pop world.” (She’s been working with indie-pop weirdos The Flaming Lips.)
She added that the record “might take me five years,” though, so be prepared to make due with covers like the one above in the meantime.
