Harding, 28, becomes Forest’s fourth signing of the week, following the arrivals of midfielder Adlene Guedioura and defenders Danny Collins and Greg Halford.
New Forest manager Sean O’Driscoll had said the club would need to sign six defenders before the start of the transfer window, with every one of the senior defenders of last season having moved on during 2012.
Harding, a left-back who made 25 appearances for the Saints last season, told his new side’s official website: “It’s brilliant. I’m really pleased. I spoke to the gaffer and liked what he had to say. I’m really excited.”
Forest chairman Omar Al Hasawi added: “We’re delighted with the way things are taking shape.
“Like Adlene, Danny and Greg, Dan is an experienced performer and knows what it takes to gain promotion from the Championship.”
