Hugo y The Artist empataron al llevarse cinco estatuillas cada una; Meryl Streep, Jean Dujardin, Octavia Spencer y Christopher Plummer triunfaron en los rubros de actuación

En la edición 84 de los Premios Oscar, realizada la noche del domingo en el Teatro Kodak de Los Ángeles, la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas de Hollywood reconoció equitativamente a dos películas que rinden homenaje al comienzo de la industria.
Hugo, filme de Martin Scorsese acerca de un huérfano que vive en una estación de tren, obtuvo cinco galardones entre los que figuran Mejor Dirección de Arte y Cinematografía. Pero fue la oda al cine silente de Michel Hazanavicius, The Artist, la que arrasó en los rubros más codiciados: Mejor Película, Mejor Dirección y Mejor Actor Protagónico (Jean Dujardin).
VOTA POR LAS MUJERES MEJOR Y PEOR VESTIDAS DE LA NOCHE
El comediante Billy Crystal regresó por novena vez como maestro de ceremonias. El comediante amenizó la noche con su conocida perspicacia sin pasarse de la raya. En el ya tradicional montaje de películas al inicio de la transmisión, George Clooney y Crystal –recreando una escena de The Descendants - se fundieron en un beso en la boca. Continuó con un número musical, como era de esperarse, en el que el actor bromeó con los actores y películas nominadas.
Si bien la noche trajo varias sorpresas también varias decepciones para ciertos productores. Steven Spielberg vio su filme War Horse regresar al establo sin medallas y The Descendants, otras de las favoritas, solo se llevó a su casa el premio de Mejor Guión Adaptado.
VOTA POR LOS HOMBRES MEJOR Y PEOR VESTIDOS DE LA NOCHE
Aunque las apuestas estaban a favor de Viola Davis por su participación en The Help, el premio a la Mejor Actriz Protagónica se lo llevó finalmente, tras 17 nominaciones y solo 2 triunfos, Meryl Streep por recrear a Margaret Thatcher en la película The Iron Lady.
“Imaginé que la mitad de América pensaría ‘Oh, no, no otra vez” dijo Streep aludiendo a este su tercer premio Oscar. Por otro lado, agradeció al resto de sus compañeros al pensar que tal vez sería la última vez que ganará la estatuilla.
REVIVE EL SHOW EN IMÁGENES
Jean Dujardin se convirtió en el primer francés en recibir el premio por Mejor Actor en un papel Protagónico. Al recibir el Oscar hizo referencia a la primera premiación en 1929 amenizada por un actor de filme silente. “Es gracioso porque en 1929… fue Douglas Fairbanks quien dirigió la primera ceremonia Oscar”, dijo. “Costaba 5 dólares y duraba 15 minutos. Las cosas han cambiado”.
Uno de los momentos más memorables de la noche fue la presentación del Cirque du Soleil. El grupo de acróbatas realizó coreografías como un homenaje a filmes clásicos como North by Northwest y Metrópolis.
MIRA LAS TENDENCIAS DE LA NOCHE EN LA ALFOMBRA ROJA
Los hispanos no figuraron en esta entrega del Oscar. Demián Bichir, nominado como Mejor Actor Protagónico por A Better Life, perdió ante Jean Dujardin, mientras que Emmanuel Lubeski, nominado por quinta vez en la categoría de Mejor Fotografía, se volvió a ir con las manos vacías, al resultar triunfador Robert Richardson por el filme Hugo. El español Alberto Iglesias tampoco logró obtener el galardón por Mejor Partitura, este premio fue para The Artist.
Los latinos no fueron totalmente olvidados en la ceremonia gracias a la cantante Jennifer López quien dejó a todos atónitos por su ceñido traje y lo que pareció un pequeño desliz en su vestuario. López presentó junto a Cameron Díaz el premio de Mejor Vestuario y Mejor Maquillaje, los cuales fueron otorgados a The Artist y a The Iron Lady, respectivamente.
El premio a Mejor Actriz de Reparto fue otorgado a Octavia Spencer por su papel en The Help. Christopher Plummer se convirtió en el hombre de más edad en obtener un Oscar, a los 82 años, por su papel en The Begginers.
Otro de los ganadores que casi había asegurado su galardón luego de múltiples premios a lo largo de esta temporada fue el filme A Separation, por Mejor Película Extranjera. El Mejor Filme Animado fue Rango. El Guión Original fue a caer a las manos de un ausente Woody Allen, por Midnight in Paris. Y el Guión Adaptado a las manos de Alexander Payne por The Descendants. Estos dos últimos premios fueron entregados por Angelina Jolie quien arrancó alaridos por su sensual atuendo.
Al final de la noche, el premio a la Mejor Película del Año cayó en las manos de The Artist cuyo director Michel Hazanavicius agradeció efusivamente al fallecido director Billy Wilder.
