NBC newsman Tom Brokaw reveals he’s been diagnosed with cancer. Doctors are optimistic about his treatment and Brokaw says, “I remain the luckiest guy I know.”
Brokaw, 72, was diagnosed in August with multiple myeloma, a cancer affecting blood cells in the bone marrow, NBC says.
“With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends, I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come,” Brokaw says in a statement released by NBC.
He continues: “I am very grateful for the interest in my condition but I also hope everyone understands I wish to keep this a private matter.”
The onetime national news anchor is a special NBC News correspondent, and NBC says he has continued to work on projects during his treatment.
