3/14/15: Brett Anderson strikes out Jerry Sands swinging in the 1st, stranding runners at first and third
GLENDALE, Ariz. — With third starter Hyun-Jin Ryu sidelined, fifth starter Brett Anderson‘s importance to the Dodgers rotation intensifies.
So with most of the club enjoying a day off on Tuesday, Anderson’s Minor League start was watched by club president Andrew Friedman and a handful of executives, in addition to manager Don Mattingly and pitching coach Rick Honeycutt.
Anderson threw five scoreless innings before allowing three runs in the sixth and calling off his appearance after allowing a ninth hit, satisfied he had accomplished what he set out to do. Four of the hits were doubles.
“It was good,” he said. “You never know what to expect in a ‘B’ game. I got my work in with an asterisk. I was only going five, but my pitch count was efficient and I’d rather get fatigued on the mound in a game than throw more in the bullpen. My stuff was better, crisper.”
While Anderson was in one Minor League game, non-roster reliever Mike Adams had his most impressive outing, striking out the side in his only inning.
