Footballing legend Brazil Pele underwent a medical examination in Sao Paulo on Wednesday, reportedly after suffering from stomach pain.
Brazil legend Pele was taken into intensive care at the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo on Wednesday.
Pele, 74, had been admitted to hospital on Monday with a urinary tract infection and was said to be in a “stable” condition.
A hospital statement said: “The Albert Einstein Hospital informs that the patient Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Pele) has been admitted in an unstable condition.
“To receive the best care, he was transferred in order to be monitored in a special care unit. The hospital will provide a bulletin should there be new information.”
The three-time World Cup winner was released from the same hospital earlier this month after successfully undergoing surgery to remove kidney stones.
