9/17/14: Daniel Corcino allows two runs on three hits and four walks, striking out six over 5 2/3 innings of work
LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers on Friday recalled left-handed reliever Adam Liberatore, claimed right-handed pitcher Daniel Corcino off waivers from Cincinnati and designated for assignment left-handed pitcher Ryan Dennick.
Liberatore, who had an impressive Spring Training, was recalled after pitching in one game at Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Corcino, 24, was assigned to Double-A Tulsa. Dennick was claimed from Cincinnati on Wednesday and never pitched in the Dodgers’ organization.
Liberatore pitched in two games for Oklahoma City. He took the place of Carlos Frias, who was optioned to Triple-A on Thursday, the day after he was recalled.
Manager Don Mattingly said Frias was promoted to protect the bullpen, which was taxed by David Huff‘s four-inning start Tuesday night. He will return to starting for Oklahoma City.
• Outfielder Yasiel Puig tested his left hamstring with aggressive running, but manager Don Mattingly said he still “feels something” and Puig was out of the lineup for a third consecutive game. Mattingly said he was hopeful it wouldn’t become an injury that lands Puig on the disabled list, but said he wasn’t sure Puig would be able to play Saturday night.
• Outfielder Carl Crawford returned to the lineup after missing Wednesday night’s start with a jammed left foot.
• Yasmani Grandal was in the starting lineup to catch Clayton Kershaw, further evidence that Grandal is the primary catcher and A.J. Ellis the backup. Mattingly said he went with Grandal because of matchups. But Ellis is 4-for-9 lifetime against Rockies starter Kyle Kendrick; Grandal is 2-for-7.
• Reliever Joel Peralta said his upper back spasms were much improved from Wednesday night, when he was unavailable.
