The Dodgers and veteran utility man Chone Figgins have agreed to a Minor League deal with an invitation to the club’s Major League Spring Training, a baseball source confirmed Wednesday.
The Dodgers have not announced the deal.
Figgins, 36, didn’t play in 2013 after he was designated for assignment by the Mariners in the offseason, then released late in Spring Training by the Marlins. He struggled in his three seasons with Seattle from 2010-12, posting a .227/.302/.283 slash line.
But in the eight seasons prior to his move to Seattle, Figgins was one of the game’s biggest speed threats with the Angels. In addition to recording 337 career stolen bases, Figgins was an All-Star in 2009, leading the league in walks and posting a .298 average and .395 on-base percentage.
Figgins stole 62 bases in 2005 and 52 the following season. He is a career .277 hitter with 35 homers and a 74 percent stolen-base success rate.
Defensively, the Dodgers have plenty of options with Figgins, who has played more than 200 big league games at third base, second base and in center field. He has also spent time in left field (76 games), right field (28 games) and at shortstop (27 games).
