LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers are expected to sign free-agent reliever Brian Wilson to a contract Tuesday, adding to their collection of former All-Star closers.
Wilson, a former Dodgers nemesis who closed out the 2010 World Series for the Giants, has missed most of the last two seasons due to Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery. In 2010, he had 48 saves and a 1.81 ERA. He was non-tendered by the Giants after last season, when he earned $8.5 million. The right-handed Wilson could join former All-Star closers Brandon League and Carlos Marmol, along with Ronald Belisario, to support current closer Kenley Jansen, who has been dominant since replacing League in May.
Wilson, 31, is another in a long line of former Giants acquired by Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti, a former Giants exec.
Wilson, who auditioned for the Dodgers and others last week, is a low-risk alternative to trading prospects for veteran depth in a thin reliever market.
