Ramirez’s RBI double 0:19
9/15/14: Hanley Ramirez’s 300th Major League double drives in Yasiel Puig
DENVER — Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez is doubtful for Wednesday’s series finale in Colorado after a right elbow strain limited him to a pinch-hit appearance on Tuesday night.
Ramirez struck out in the sixth inning of the Dodgers’ 10-4 loss to the Rockies but playing the field is still another story.
“Tomorrow we’re up in the air,” manager Don Mattingly said of Ramirez’s status. “He had a little elbow soreness before the game. Obviously he was able to pinch-hit, but he was having trouble getting loose to throw today. It seems like a quick turnaround for him to be able to throw all of a sudden. We’ll just see where he’s at tomorrow and go from there.”
Mattingly said Ramirez first felt discomfort in his elbow during the Dodgers’ 11-3 win over the Rockies on Monday. After the Dodgers erupted for eight runs in the sixth inning of that game, Mattingly replaced Ramirez with Miguel Rojas as part of a double-switch.
Justin Turner got the start at shortstop in Ramirez’s place, finishing the game 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Given the hot bat he’s been swinging of late, he seems like the most likely candidate to hold down the fort until Ramirez returns.
Before Tuesday’s scratch, Ramirez had already missed 31 games this season with a handful of injuries, including a strained right oblique that landed him on the disabled list in August.
