Dodgers reliever Brandon League hasn’t pitched since March 9 due to right shoulder discomfort.
GLENDALE, Ariz. — Dodgers reliever Brandon League will be out for “several months,” manager Don Mattingly said on Friday.
League’s inflamed right shoulder was examined by several doctors Friday in Las Vegas. Mattingly didn’t have an exact diagnosis, but said a conservative approach would be taken, beginning with three weeks of rest.
League hasn’t pitched since March 9. He had an extended bullpen session two days later, after which he felt the discomfort. He had a cortisone injection, has tried two bullpen sessions, but more discomfort led to a contrast MRI on Wednesday.
League’s absence can be mitigated by the glut of relievers pitching well in camp after management spent the winter hoarding them.
League hasn’t had a shoulder injury since 2007. The ground-ball specialist turned in an off-the-radar solid season in ’14, with a 2.57 ERA in 63 appearances.
Mattingly said Chad Gaudin, who had an MRI on Thursday for continued nerve issues in his right arm, would be shut down as doctors evaluate the results. Mattingly expects more information by Monday.
