Ghana manager Kwesi Appiah has revealed Marseille winger Andre Ayew will not participate at the 2013 African Nations Cup.

Ayew, 23, failed to report to Ghana’s training camp in Abu Dhabi to have a hamstring injury assessed, meaning he misses out on being included in Appiah’s 23-man squad.
Appiah said in a statement on Monday: “Unfortunately, Andre failed to report to camp and indicated that owing to the treatment he was receiving from his doctor he would report to camp on Wednesday.
“In line with my vision of taking only fit players for the Africa Cup of Nations, I have decided … to work only with the players currently in camp.”
Appiah said he had “personally explained the rationale behind the decision to Andre” and “will continue to count on him in future matches if he is fit”.
Ayew is a key player for his nation, having been named the Ghana Player of the year in 2011. Appiah’s team kick-off their campaign against Congo DR on January 20.
