LOS ANGELES, Calif. —
Following the release of the Mel Gibson’s explosive recordings with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, a friend of the actor claims he previously sought therapy in order to deal with his relationship with the Russian singer.
“He realized how unhealthy the relationship was and recognized that they were in a bad place and he was getting his buttons pushed,” a friend of Gibson’s told People.
”[He] wanted to figure out how to extricate himself from this unhealthy relationship peacefully and calmly, which is what he did,” the friend continued.
According to a source close to the case, the recordings, which have been posted by Radar Online, were taped in early February following a fight between the couple in late January, the mag reported.
The friend of the actor said, “He’s coping as well as can be expected,” following the release of the tapes, where he’s heard allegedly acknowledging that he hit the mother of his 8-month daughter, Lucia.
On Monday, a rep for the actor told Access Hollywood that the 54-year-old actor had no comment on the situation.
