Cristiano Ronaldo joins Raul and Alfredo di Stefano as the only players to have scored 300 goals for Real Madrid.
Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti was delighted with his players’ performance after their 2-0 victory at Rayo Vallecano.
Real Madrid will appeal the yellow card that Cristiano Ronaldo received in the game at Rayo Vallecano from referee Mario Melero Lopez, the club confirmed on Thursday.
Ronaldo’s 300th Real Madrid goal was not his only dramatic contribution in Wednesday’s 2-0 La Liga win as the reigning Ballon d’Or holder was harshly booked for diving, and the game at the Estadio Vallecas remained scoreless past the hour mark.
Ronaldo’s fifth yellow means that he — along with James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos — are suspended for Saturday’s home game against Eibar pending the appeal and AS reported on Thursday that the appeal was motivated over doubts as to whether Gareth Bale would be fit to play on Saturday.
“I told the referee that everyone saw it was a penalty,” Ancelotti said after the game. “I told him it was incredible that he didn’t award a penalty and that he showed Cristiano the yellow card. We will appeal.”
